IMPORTANT PUBLIC MEETING SATURDAY AUGUST 15
AT 6:30 P.M. AT AZALEA COMMUNITY CHURCH
The Stouts Creek Fire Incident Management Team is holding another public meeting Saturday August 15th at 6:30 p.m. at the Azalea Community Church, 362 Upper Cow Creek Road, Azalea, OR.  Fire managers will present the plan for the burnout and contingency plan for structure protection.

Fire managers began burnout operations this afternoon at the lower southeastern portion of the fireline, along Forest Service Road 3201, one-half mile northwest of Diamond Rock. There still is a sizeable amount of unburned fuels that need removed to widen and strengthen the fireline northeast of Upper Cow Creek Road and Beaver Creek. Significant smoke is not expected this evening, but crews will continue the burn into the night as long as weather conditions permit. Planned burns are scheduled for tomorrow as well and will be underway as soon as weather and fuel conditions allow. Smoke will be more noticeable tomorrow morning and for several until the burnout is completed. Residents in the Azalea area may be impacted.

Day and night crews are making steady progress along the northwest, north and eastern portions of the fireline, continuing to mop up and deepen those lines into the interior up to 300 feet. Firefighters on the ground will be locating heat sources with handheld infrared heat detectors and mopping up those areas as the terrain and visibility permit. These hot spots pose little threat of escaping existing fire lines.

Light northwest winds this evening will become northeast overnight with gusts up to 20 mph, then northwest to north tomorrow. Temperatures tonight will be 45 to 54 with predicted temperatures tomorrow 73 to 86, depending on elevation.

The Stouts Creek Fire is being managed under unified command by Oregon Department of Forestry Team 2 Incident Commander Chris Cline and Forest Service Incident Commander Mike Wilde, since Thursday morning.

There are 1,631 personnel assigned to the fire with 41 crews, 44 engines, 21 water tenders, 15 bulldozers and 11 helicopters. Numbers of personnel and equipment will continue to shrink as objectives are met and these resources move on to fires with greater needs.

The Stouts Creek Fire costs to date are $27.8 million. The Incident Management Team is protecting lands that are about 48 percent on state protected lands, which include BLM and private lands, and 52 percent on the Umpqua National Forest. Twenty-three states and three Canadian provinces have provided staff for this effort.
