Cloudy and rainy weather made it impossible for the helicopter to fly yesterday. Crews worked to improve projects that had been started in previous days. A rain gauge was installed on Kloochman Lookout and additional gauges will be placed around the fire as weather permits.
Fire officials have planned an aerial recon of the fire today if the weather allows. Crews will continue to improve projects and construction of the sprinkler system, weather permitting.
Fire activity varies greatly depending on weather conditions. The increase in clouds, cooler temperatures, and higher relative humidity has moderated fire activity over the last couple days. When the weather pattern changes to warmer and drier conditions we expect fire activity and visible smoke to increase. Suppression priorities remain the same; keep the fire north of the Queets River and east of Bob Creek.
Fires are not permitted in the backcountry area of Olympic National Park, including coastal areas. Campfires are only allowed in established front-country campgrounds in metal campfire rings.
