8/5/2015 North Boulder 2 Fire Update

The North Boulder 2 fire continues to burn in heavy timber and dead and down fuels. The fire is located approximately 3 ½ miles Southwest of Orient, WA.

Yesterday’s Fire Activity: There has been no growth on this fire for several days. Fire behavior has been minimal with a few smoking hotspots. The direct line is holding as crews continue to patrol the perimeter. Islands of unburned fuel remain inside of the fire perimeter.

Operations Report: Smoke will remain to be seen from the fire area until a season ending weather event, such as heavy rain and/or snow.Firefighters will begin repair work in the fire area today; crews will be placing hand-constructed waterbars in designated areas. Waterbars break up drainage areas, prevent gullies from forming and control erosion on constructed firelines.  These will remain in place until full repair and rehabilitation efforts begin.

Weather: Temperatures will be lower than normal through Thursday. A passing upper low pressure system will bring a chance of showers and possibly a brief thunderstorm on Wednesday and a small but still present chance on Thursday.

Industrial Fire Precaution Levels (IFPL): Beginning today, the remainder of the Industrial Fire Precaution Level (IFPL) zones in NE Washington are at an IFPL III. That means that the Colville National Forest is now fully in IFPL III due to very high fire danger, and this prohibits the use of power saws on the Forest. The following website contains information regarding IFPLs- http://www.dnr.wa.gov.ifpl

Fire Prevention Information: The fire season is far from over in Washington.  Firefighters rely on the public to help reduce the risk of wildland fires. When residents of a fire prone community clear brush, trees and other flammable materials away from their homes and outbuildings, it helps to keep residents and firefighters safe.  More information on what can be done around homes to mitigate the effects of wildfires can be found at www.firewise.org
