8/24/2015 County Line 2 Update

The Oregon Incident Management Team #1 (Shawn Sheldon, IC) continues to manage the County Line 2 Fire.

“Heads up today for any lightning while on the line or in camp”, was the morning message from IC, Shawn Sheldon.

During the day yesterday, along Roads 411 and 413 there was spotting across the lines where there are heavier fuels, but these were caught quickly with helicopter bucket drops.  Today’s hotter and drier weather, with wind gusts to 15mph, brings the potential of ½ mile spotting.

Crews continued prep work for planned burning approximately ½ mile from the western edge of fire.  A masticator, used to grind and remove fuels, worked along Road 512 prepping for burning and strengthening containment lines.

Smoke inversion over the fire did not subside until late afternoon; therefore planned burning began approximately5:00 pm. Progress was made last night towards containment on the western edge of fire.  Spots were addressed inside and outside the line all through the night.

The fire is down one Type III helicopter again today as the pilot is timed-out.

Beginning on Wednesday, August 26 there will be engines and crews beginning to demob due to time limitations on this fire.
As of yesterday, nationwide there are 671 crews assigned to fires.

Monday’s forecast is calling for westerly winds 8-12 mph with gusts to 15 mph, temperatures will be in the 80s, relative humidity being 14-22 percent.  There’s a slight chance of thundershowers and or lightning today.

There is a greater potential for dry lightning across Oregon and Washington on Wednesday and Thursday with only a 20 percent chance of precipitation.
