8/12/2015 National Creek Complex AM Update

Yesterday’s Activities:  Mop-up continued on the National Fire. 
Crescent fire made a push to the north and northwest in the afternoon leading to a closure on Oregon Highway 230.  Firefighters working on the west and southwest side made significant progress building handline and air support worked to keep the fire in check on the south end.

Today’s Activities: Mop-up efforts on the National Fire are ongoing. 
For the Crescent Fire, a structure group will begin installing pumps and sprinklers for the Diamond Lake area.
Crews will continue mopping-up and holding the fireline on the southwest perimeter of the Crescent.  That line serves as the anchor point for building fireline.  
If circumstances allow, firefighters may use the Old Diamond Lake Road as a contingency line for burn-out operations to hold the fire on the north end.

Weather:  Temperatures at the complex are predicted to be in the mid to high 70’s today with south-southwest winds 8-10 miles per hour, gusting to 20 miles per hour

Closures & Evacuations: Officials continue to evaluate the need for the Closure on Highway 230 and other closures or evacuations associated with the National Creek Complex. They will make changes as the situation warrants.

In the National Park, Bald Crater Loop trail is closed between Boundary Springs and Crater Springs due to suppression activities.  Other Crater Lake National Park facilities and roads remain open.
An area closure is in place on the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest.  A map and description of the closure area is online at http://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/4463/.
Diamond Lake Area is under a Stage 1 Evacuation Notice; the “ready” stage in “ready, set, go”.
