7/12/2015 Wolverine Fire Update AM

The lightning-caused Wolverine Fire is 317 acres and 0% contained.  It is burning in timber in steep, terrain.  Approximately 117 personnel are assigned to the fire.

Notice: Hikers and backpackers; be aware trails leading into Holden Village are temporarily closed while Holden Village is at a Level 2 evacuation notification.  If you are planning a visit to the Holden area, please check Inciweb http://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/4354/ prior to your departure or call the Chelan Ranger District (509) 682-4900 for specific information.

The Chelan Ranger District received several lightning strikes Friday night resulting in four new starts, one of which is contained.  All new fire starts are less than one acre and are staffed with local resources and resources assigned to the Wolverine Fire.  Thunderstorms predicted throughout the weekend may continue to produce new fire starts in the area.

Two fire crews have been reassigned from the Wolverine Fire to other fires off the Chelan Ranger District. One crew will continue to monitor the fire and finish preparations for structures at Lucerne, Riddle, and Lightning Creeks as well as making preparations for burnouts north of Holden Road should the Wolverine Fire begin to move.  The other crew will be staged at 25 Mile Camp to respond to new fire starts.

The Level 2 evacuation notice for Holden Village and Lucerne remains in effect.  This notice means “be ready”.  Although Holden itself is not threatened, there is concern that its single road access could be compromised if the fire should move to the south.

Refrigerator Harbor Campground at Lucerne remains open to the public as does the Pacific Crest Trail, which passes west of Holden.

Resources Assigned: Two 20-person crews, three helicopters and four boats
