8/11/2014 Staley Complex Update 12:30 pm

The Davey Fire remained active overnight on Saturday. The level of fire activity on Sunday morning forced crews to shift strategy from direct to indirect tactics with firelines located a safe distance from the fire. Crews continue to make progress on indirect and contingency lines surrounding the Staley Fire. Late Sunday afternoon, firefighters were pulled off the line as severe thunderstorms moved across the fire area.

Today's Activities: Middle Fork Ranger District initial attack crews together with resources loaned from the Staley Complex are responding to dozens of new starts from hundreds of lightning strikes. Fires burning on national forest lands near adjacent communities are the highest priority. On the Staley Fire, indirect and contingency lines are nearing completion. Helicopters will continue to be used to drop water to check the growth of both fires.  Firing operations along indirect lines are on hold until the relative humidity from recent rains decreases and burning conditions are favorable.

Weather and Fire Behavior: Overnight, the Middle Fork Ranger District received nearly 800 lightning strikes. Increased relative humidity from wetting rains is slowing the rate of fire spread. The National Weather Service has a red flag warning in place for critical fire weather through 11:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Road and Area Closures are in effect for Forest Service roads surrounding the Staley Complex: Portions of Forest Roads 2134, 2154 and 2143 are closed. The fires are located 28 miles south of Oakridge. There are no impacts to Highway 58 or to travel in the Oakridge area. Forest Road 21 remains open. See map for closure details:

Oakridge Airport Closure: The Oakridge airport is closed to civilian aircraft and a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) is in effect due to fire related helicopter traffic.
