8/12/2014 AM Lone Mountain Fire 1 Update

                  Tuesday, August 12, 2014

Firefighters saw no lightning the Lone Mountain Fire last night, but they are on high alert for today and tonight, as they continue to hold fire out of the War Creek drainage and away from Stehekin. Some light right was falling this morning, which should give firefighters an advantage in their work.
Mechanical concerns kept two Lone Mountain Fire helicopters on the ground yesterday, but one is scheduled back in service today, joining two others hauling water in 300 gallon buckets on long lines to aid firefighters.
A new incident commander, Michael Vasquez, will be taking over duty from Corky Conover tomorrow, leading the 45 people who are assigned to the Lone Mountain Fire. Vasquez will be taking over a fire that covers about 2,770 acres.
The Lone Mountain Fire sits between about 3,500 and 7,000 feet elevation in a mountain bowl. It started on July 14, but growth has been minimal in the last couple weeks.
Yesterday, the fire made runs up stringers of timber in Rennie Creek, adding to smoke from other fires already clogging skies in the area. Smoke is also rising from the western side of the fire below McAlester Mountain.
