Fireline preparation continues on Bald Sisters Fire

Summary: With the weather again cooperating, the Bald Sisters fire grew only fifty-five acres yesterday.  Taking advantage of the moderate fire behavior, firefighters completed indirect line preparation along Forest Road 13 and Forest Road 1344 south and west of the fire.  Heavy equipment including skidgines and vegetation masticators were moved to the east side of the fire to widen and improve the indirect line established along Forest Road 2652.

The construction and improvement of these fire lines will continue today.  Clouds continue to shade the fire and lower temperatures should again contribute to low to moderate fire behavior.  With the winds shifting to the south, the fire is expected to grow to the north.  There may be some growth to the south with the fire backing downhill in the thick beetle-killed pine.

There will be a public meeting tonight, August 9, 2014, at 7:00 p.m. at the Prairie City Community Center.  The Malheur National Forest along with fire managers with the Forest Service National Incident Management Organization and the Southwest Incident Management Team 3 will provide a Bald Sisters Fire situation update.
