The Chiwaukum Creek Fire was reported by an aerial observer earlier today and has grown from 1/10th of acre to 200-500 acres. Exact acreage is hard to determine because of smoky conditions.  This fire will be managed as a Ops Branch/Division of the Mills Canyon Fire.  Fire information will be switched to Mills Canyon Fire personnel at 509.888.5160.
A Spike camp at Fish Lake airstrip is being set-up.   Resources include: Two helos, 3 hotshot crews, 2 FF-2 crews.

The Chiwaukum Creek Fire is actively burning upslope from the valley floor to ridge top.  It is in heavy fuels (brush and timber) with potential for high rate of spread with reports of spotting up to a mile.  Trails #1584 and 1571 are being swept by WRRD trail crews and also the Gill Creek, Lake Ethel, Lake Julius, Loch Eileen and Lake Donald areas (Scottish Lakes).

Light ash is falling in Leavenworth.  Red flag warnings tomorrow (7/16/14) for winds pushing to the east.

Evac notices issued by Chelan County in conjunction with the FS include:
Level 3   Chiwaukum Creek
Level 3   Coulter Creek
Level 2  Tumwater Campground

Cause is not determined.
